KCFW SS'22 - WEDNESDAY NIGHT RUNWAY - A RECAP

It's time for some Kansas City Fashion Week Recap! I attended two nights of runway shows for the 20th season of Kansas City Fashion Week. I know KCFW has been amazing across all its different venues, over the years, but I am partial to the runway at Union Station! It just hits different.

What did I wear? Well, I wanted to channel my inner Spring vibes, but with a twist. Opted for a sage green dress, which is a great length. Paired it with white ankle boots, a zebra print bag, and some scrunchie/scarf action on the wrists. Pearl hoops and some pink lips completed the Spring ensemble.

The first designer of the evening was Crystal La'Shay! The African-inspired prints and silhouettes were definitely eye-catching! Loved the fact that she had a good mix of outfits you can wear to brunch and outfits to take you to a cocktail event! You can't miss the fact that she creates a vibrant ready-to-wear women's line.

The second designer of the evening was Elsi Marie! Romantic, modern, and youthful, is how I would describe this collection. Volume and elegance featured high in her aesthetics.

Pantone color of the year - Very Peri made an appearance on the KCFW runway with our third designer of the evening - Toree Maree. She created a ready-to-wear line that was a blend of couture and athleisure. Loved the draping and ruching, and the play of textures of satin and jersey! Toreemarie is a self-taught fashion designer based in Des Moines, Iowa. Currently specializing in womenswear, she has a passion to create and grow through fashion.

The fourth designer of the evening was Solsikke. If you know me, you know I am a huge fan of denim. So when I come across a denim collection on the runway, you know I am excited. Patchwork, colors and tones and so much more. Gabriella Mathews(Solsikke) proved that denim can not only rock the runway but the fact that it can be so versatile. I can't wait to shop this line when it's available.

The fifth designer of the evening was veteran KCFW model, Michell Morris' line - MPower. Loved her play on coordinated activewear sets, which were definitely high on the fashion quotient. Some tennis chic to elevating animal print loved how she brought it all together! Also, it was so much fun not only to see Michelle's daughters as her showstoppers but also designer Jenn A Robbins, as one of her models!

The sixth designer of the evening was Iron Togs. She was one of the designers whom I had met at the KCFW Media Night where she had previewed one of her looks. She had mentioned that she is inspired by spaghetti Westerns and we shared a mutual love for Dolly Parton! Hers was definitely one of the best collections of the night. I loved the artistic play on the runway, from the romantic silhouettes to the beautiful embroidery, it was elevated fashion. This is another collection I would reach out for when I went shopping. It is that old-school glam with a touch of Western flavor! Take a bow lady!

The seventh designer of the evening was Emma Plante's Planteem Designs! A botanical-inspired collection - "Garden Ho," which had a lot of custom hand-dying and repurposed materials. 50 shades of green, almost with some matching up to what I wore for the evening. It was so fresh and chic for Spring!

The eighth designer of the evening was Carl's Bad Design! It was time for some more denim action on the runway. Yes, some more patchwork, but it was the play of textures that caught the eye of the audience. Denim and satin, denim and tulle, and denim was clearly the talk of the evening!

The ninth designer of the evening was AFOM- Molly Fralick! She had a beautiful activewear line, with fun, feminine details. Loved how the fabrics were breathable.

The tenth designer of the night was Madhouse. She was one of the designers who had previewed their collection on the Media Night. She is inspired by Summer fun, and it was evident in the bright colors on cue, in her collection. Loved all the color blocking and the resort wear pieces!

The final designer for Wednesday night was Potion 23. If Alice in Wonderland, met Frida Kahlo, it would be a collection like this. Loved all the retro vibes, and the attention to detail.

And that was a wrap to Wednesday night of runway shows for Kansas City Fashion Week!

Thank you Deni Mahoney - The Petite Pilot, Michelle Drink - Michelle Takes Photos, Alex Todd and Vijay Ainapurapu for my photos!
