RED KICTHEN KC: AUTHENTIC MEXICAN FOOD

Rounding off the weekend at Red Kitchen KC, and my heart and belly are full! “When you are passionate about something, then the whole universe rallies up to make that happen!” That’s exactly how you would describe the journey of Chef Alexandra de la Fuente and @redkitchenkc ! Authentic Mexican food done right would be an understatement to describe what Red Kitchen KC is all about.

From selling Tamales from the trunk of her car to having a one-day pop-up at Lenexa Public Market, to having her breakfast burritos been voted the best in Kansas City by the Food and Wine Magazine! And finally her anchor space at Lenexa Public Market

Tamales, Taco De Guisado, Tostada de Picadillo, Torta de Tinga and so much more. Chef Alexandra is from Mexico City, and brings a flavor of that on every plate she creates. For her first popup, which was scheduled to last from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m., she prepared 500 tamales. She sold out in 45 minutes. That should something about how iconic is her cult following in Kansas City.

On a typical Saturday, lines snake around the market with fans eager to fill up on a combination of egg and potatoes with your choice of bacon, chorizo, or sausage wrapped in Caramelo Sonoran-style artisan flour tortillas made in Lawrence, Kansas. The new space offers room to expand her menu -- and move from a single electric burner and grill to a roomier flat-top with prep area and storage.

Let's talk craft cocktails, shall we! You can't miss the El Jefe cocktail (serrano-infused tequila, pineapple juice, and agave) plus other originals fashioned from horchata, prickly pear, and other exotic fruit purees.

Chef Alexandra makes her food with so much passion and love and that makes it a league of its own. @redkitchenkc is a female-owned restaurant where the whole family is involved. From her mom to her cousin, to her husband and son, everyone pitches in to be the support system of the powerhouse called Chef Alexandra de la Fuente. Thank you @katie_adams88 and @sarahscoop for my photos! Thank you @kimdishes and @jillsilvafood for the invite.

  1. I'm Mexican and living in México; and I'm impressed by Red Kitchen knowledge about our cuisine; so many dishes in this list are the real traditional food that is ignored or have swapped presentations or ingredients in other opinions about Mexican food. Thanks for promoting mexican food.
