KCFW SS'16 DAY 1 : RUNWAY ON THE ROOFTOP - HIGHLIGHTS

Front row fun with Jewelry Designer Ngan Vuong, Editor Katie Van Luchene and KCFW Finale Designer Alicia Janesko

OOTD
Models walking across turquoise waters, as purple and pink lights flashed by, surrounded by the KC downtown skyline. Even a drone taking pictures. Yes, Kansas City Fashion Week SS'16's took the runway not only to the pool, but to a pool on the rooftop. Aptly called RUNWAY ON THE ROOFTOP.  The pool at the rooftop of One Light Luxury Apartments downtown was the perfect venue to set the ball rolling.

This seemed to be the perfect party to celebrate fashion before the signature shows started at Union Station. Designers, Models,Bloggers, Stylists sipped on their fancy cocktails and mingled pool side.

Geting chatty with KCFW SS'16 Finale Designer Alicia Janesko. Stay tuned for our exclusive interview .

Twinning Blue Caftans with Editor Katie Van Luchene
The Runway on the Pool offered 365 degree views for everyone. While there were the customary rows on one side, there were some who stretched out in the Cabanas, while there were some others who bagged the best viewing spot from the bar at the fourth end.

As DJ Scotty Dynamo continued to churn the latest chartbusters, the models queued up.

Jenna Sea Swimwear
JennaSea Swimwear kickstarted the evening's shows. Corals and jewel tones played along with pretty neutrals. But the fact that she had swimwear for every body type, surely struck a chord. Being a mom to a toddler, I know how difficult it can be sometimes to shop for swimwear, for Mommy bodies at times . From bikinis, to tankinis, to flowy sarongs and beautiful and flattering one pieces, I loved the diversity of her collection. I am a total water baby, and so I know where to head next time I want to shop. Clearly my top pick for the night.

"Florals for Spring? How Original !!" ... Miranda Priestly, in The Devil Wears Prada.

But somehow how florals seemed to work for Zafar. The collection had some old school touches to it, with its skirts and jackets. But the color palette was very modern. Especially the way the designer brought in accent prices like a coral and nude pair of shoes or a cherry red handbag, made it all work pretty well.

Mary Mwash Collections took us on a trip to the Serengeti. Her collection was inspired by the colors of the Safari. Mustard yellow, olive greens and tan splashed across our eyes, in structured outfits. From kids, to men to the ladies, who want to look all fashionable while on a Safari, she seemed to have it all. Not exactly a fan of this palette.

Lastly, KC's Garment District Boutique took to the runway, and brought in some Fall in an otherwise Spring Summer fashion show. They showed off pieces from their latest collection. Ankle Booties, flowy jumpsuits, plaid and Stripes took centre stage.

The runway shows wrapped to set the party roll on.  It was time to mingle some more and let the hair down.

So did you like what I had worn for the first night of runway shows. If you did , then do not forget to check out my OOTD post from the same night.

Stay tuned for many more Kansas City Fashion Week updates.

WHAT I WORE FOR KCFW SS'16 RUNWAY ON THE ROOFTOP : OOTD

The last week has been a bit crazy. The customary Thursday post came up on Tuesday and the Sunday post is literally coming up at the last minute. Yours Truly was one of the Official Media for Kansas City Fashion Week, which concluded last Saturday. So for the next few weeks, my blog is going to see a deluge of KCFW posts, as I will bring for you, details about all that I wore , and highlights from each of the days. And lastly the Trends to watch out for in Spring Summer 2016. So lets start off the blogging marathon with my OOTD for the first day.

Kansas City Fashion Week Spring Summer '16 took the party to the pool. Before the signature shows started at Union Station, the KCFW management took the Runway to the Pool at One Light Luxury Apartments in downtown KC. Azure waters, flashy colored lights, the towering buildings of downtown created the perfect ambience, as Fashion took centre stage.

Pools always make me desire for resort wear. Flowy fabrics played on my mind, as I stood in my closet trying to put together an outfit.

I opted for a Caftan Top in silk, which had beautiful tropical flowers on it. For me it screamed about the water. I knew we had officially stepped in to fall, but the weather was just perfect for a Summer pool party. My Fall element in my outfit was my skirt. Or lets just say, the fabric details on my skirt. It was an Asymetrical Skirt , half of which had faux leather. I wanted to bring out my heels for these few days, so for the first night, it was my trusty Cole Haan Pointy Toe Patent Leather Pumps, which just had a hint of heel in it. Isn't there something sexy about Pointy Toe shoes.

For my Accessories, I wanted to play up the Blues in my top, and continue the Aqua theme.  I opted for my Chunky Turquoise Necklace and two pairs of earrings for my ear piercings .They were in two shades turquoise, as is often the case of gemstones, that two stones will rarely be in the same color. These are traditional Navajo Jewellery which I had picked up during a trip to New Mexico.

My Zara Rose Gold Bag with gold studs and my Gunmetal Citizen Eco Drive Watch added the finishing touches.

I love me some Smokey eyes, and I love the versatility you can achieve by playing up with colors. The possibilities are just endless. The Aqua theme carried on in my choice of eye color. I used Side Car from Urban Decay Naked 1 Palette in my inner half of the eye lids. MAC Eye Shadow in Deep Truth for the outer half of the eye lids and I dragged it into the crease. It sa true Dark Blue with a touch of frost.  Then I took a clean blending brush and blended away the hard lines. Then I opted for the color Naked from Urban Decay Naked 1(which is very close to my skin color) and used it further to buff away the harsh ones along the crease and outer corner. this helped to smoke it out further. I cleaned out the fall outs with a make up wipe, and then went ahead to do my base. When using darker eye shadows, its sometimes a better idea to do the eyes first and then clean up and do the base. Clinique Beyond Perfecting Skin Foundation  is my latest go to foundation, and I use it in the color Golden Neutral now that I am super tanned with all the Summer Sun. MAC ProLongwear Concealer in NW 20 under the eyes and on the bridge of the nose and on the cupid's bow. Sorry, I had forgotten to mention that I had used Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original as my Eyeshadow Base. Milani Luminoso Blush as I wanted to bronze up my face further for the pool. MAC CremeCup seemed the right shade of blue toned nude pink. Lots and lots of Maybelline Volum' Express The Falsies Waterproof Mascara  in Very Black and MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack

So if you liked my outfit and make up and wanted to re-create it, don't forget to tag #Journospeak in your social media posts. I would love to see all of them. And to help you in your shopping, I have listed all the outfit, accessories and make up details.

KCFW SS'16 KICK OFF - BUBBLY AND BAUBLES - KENDRA SCOTT

Kansas City Fashion Week is finally here. Last Sunday it all began with the kick off event : KCFW "Bubbly & Baubles" ," held at the Kendra Scott store at the Country Club Plaza. One of the perks of being one of the Official Media Blogger for KCFW  is that you get invited for VIP parties and after parties, besides the runway shows. It was essentially a styling event where the best in fashion in the city were getting together, to have a fun afternoon. The KCFW team put together a brilliant array of Baubles from Kendra Scott. So if you have had your outfits planned, now was the time to style them with the right touch of bling.

The word " Baubles," in the title of the event was my inspiration for my OOTD. I pulled out a Gun Metal Sequinned Mini . I paired it with an Aztec printed black and white peplum top. Anything to camouflage my tummy(read: problem area). I broke the black and white monotony of the outfit with a pair of Cobalt Blue ballet flats. For my Make up, I stuck to the Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and MAC Creme cum for my lips. My Prada cat eye shades . I paired some silver earrings and skipped a necklace. How did i forget my trust ZARA bag in rose gold. I guess it was this bag, which led me on a rose gold trails later this afternoon.

If you know me, you know that I love rings. I don't know how the organizers knew that. We did fill out our names for a raffle which was happening that afternoon. I duly filled it up and was chatting away to glory with the ladies, when they announced that I had won this beautiful NAOMI DOUBLE RING IN BRONZE DRUSY BY KENDRA SCOTT. Thank you Kansas City Fashion Week and Kendra Scott for the lovely gift. It was truly an Aww moment for me. Can't wait to style it with one of my outfits during the week. Just when you win a ring, you realize that your nails got chipped despite a fancy mani. Mommy problems.

As the name suggested there was Bubbly and Baubles galore. Sipping on some Champagne, and shopping for bling and hanging out with your girl friends, isn't that a perfect Sunday afternoon !! Oh Yeah !! Must add that I always love the choice of Cheese which the Kendra Scott team serves up at their events.

So I decided to scope out the store for the perfect statement necklace and the perfect pair of earrings. I already had the ring. It was time to shop.

I had my gift card from THE BLOG GUILD and KENDRA SCOTT for winning the best blog contest some time back. First on my mind was the RAYNE NECKLACE

After trying on a few, I decided to explore the COLOR BAR option which Kendra Scott offers and create my custom version of the fan favorite tassel necklace. I opted for Rose Gold and Magenta.

Isn't it pretty !!!! Now for some earrings !!!

What blew me away were the ADELA EARRINGS !!! It was difficult for me god decide which metal to choose from. But I was clearly having a thing for Rose Gold on that day.

Shopping and styling done, it was time to socialize some more. Its such events which give you an opportunity to catch up with your friends and mix work with pleasure.

And make some NEW friends and have a perfectly girlie afternoon. Kansas City has such a brilliant Blogging community.

So if you want to know how KCFW is rolling, make sure to follow my blog and all other social media. Let me take you on a virtual tour of the Fashion extravaganza called KANSAS CITY FASHION WEEK SPRING SUMMER '2016 through my blog.
