BLACK AND WHITE : KCFW FW'19 STYLE

Kansas City Fashion Week is almost here. While its a big part of my annual calendar, I have decided to take a break, for a season. The reason: I have my plate full now. As many of you might know that my husband, is battling a very aggressive form of cancer. Being a  caregiver is often not the easiest job. So while I might be missing the upcoming shows next month, I thought of doing a flashback to last season.
KCFW Fall Winter 2019. I had done my series of the Recap of the runway shows of last season, but I had not done the Outfit posts. So here we go.

We are almost at the end of Summer, and Fall-Winter will be here before we know it. Deciding your outfit fr fashion week can often be tricky. Do you dress up for the shows, or do you dress up whats trendy during the actual season? Fashion Week happens a season in advance, as you know it. So my Outfit for the Media Night of KCFW FW'19 was something which you could easily to transition from Summer to Fall.

Black and White! The iconic song was my inspiration for my outfit of choice. I am not an MJ fan per se, but I am a woman of color. I decided to shop my closet as I styled my outfits for last season of KCFW. The linen culottes have been a favorite of mine. Who does not love wide-legged cropped pants? I know I do. Whenever I am styling culottes, I try to balance out the volume. SO crop tops become an obvious choice. A white crop top with a Peter Pan faux leather collar, and a print which is a conversation starter. What's summer without some sunglasses right, and a top with a sunglass print is a no-brainer.
How do you play up the black and white? You bring in red and blue, of course. Red lipstick, red statement earrings, and blue denim covered mules, provided the perfect accent for the black and white outfit. Are you ready to transition your outfits from Summer to Fall? Stay tuned to the blog, for some more outfit ideas frm KCFW.

KCFW FW'19 - WEDNESDAY NIGHT RUNWAY - A RECAP

Time for some long-due posts from Kansas City Fashion Week. I had attended KCFW Fall Winter-19 some time back, and it was as spectacular as ever. This post and my other posts got immensely delayed, as my family got handed out the worst curveball by life. I and my husband were celebrating our 10th Marriage anniversary when my husband felt sick. He was diagnosed with Stage 2 Testicular Cancer and had to go in for emergency surgery. He will be starting his chemos soon. Now, you know why I had been MIA from the blog. Anyways, let's get back to KCFW memories, shall we?

Besides the Media Night at 28 Event Space, I attended Wednesday and Thursday nights of runway shows. I know, those are not my typical nights for KCFW, but I decided to try out something different this season. This season's runway shows were held at the Grand Hall of Kansas City, downtown, with a European style runway. Very Thankful to Team KCFW for the fabulous Front Row seats, on both nights.

If you haven't yet checked out my recap of KCFW FW'19 Media Night, then click Here.

The first designer of the evening was Kamber Elyse(Kamber Causemaker). She launched her latest collection RED: a spur of the moment, kick of the boot, take no bull collection. She defines herself as a country soul with couture goals. From tortoise-shell to fur, from shoulder details to a variety of hemlines, loved the eclectic mix. The earthy tones of the collection made it so Fall-perfect!
The next designer of the evening was Sew Unrelaxed (Missy Isamoore). She gets inspiration and boldness of her designs from experiencing different cities. One look at the colors and prints of her current collection will show you how her collection and style can be best described as AfroPolitan- a mix of Afro-centric and Cosmopolitan. Sew Unrelaxed features casual wear, swimwear, evening wear, and even menswear. And if you had thought vibrant pinks were a Spring -Summer staple, then she forces you to re-think about your color palette for Fall-Winter

Shelby Harvey is a designer based in Springfield, MO. While "Bridal wear," is her first love, she is interested in bringing her unique design perspective into ready-to-wear line. Her latest collection is inspired by Proverbs 31 and Virtuous Women and marked her debut in Kansas City Fashion Week. From flared pants to fanny gaps, from graphic tees to dreamy capes, I loved her attention to detail, in her ready-to-wear collection.

The next showcase was by Eddie Bauer from Oak Park Mall, who brought in the hottest colors of the season, in the coolest of outerwear

Hally Vollbrecht was the next designer of the evening. She had studied fashion not only at Iowa State but also at London Colleg of Fashion. She has worked in the industry interning for Marchesa, also at Free People as an assistant designer, to name a few. Loved how edgy yet romantic her collection was. The risque element clearly stole my heart.

Last but not least was XYZ by Jason Metzler. He was on Project Runway Junior and he has been creating clothing which empowers women. His goal is to make women all the world feel confident and powerful. And his latest collection was true to his goal. What an amazing finale, to the first night of runway shows, for a brand new season of KCFW.

FALL FLORALS FOR KCFW SS'19 GARDEN PARTY

Florals for Fall! Those were my exact thoughts when I had first seen this dress. Kansas City Fashion Week kickstarted its Spring Summer'19 with Garden Party and moody florals seemed like a perfect idea. This dress and KCFW does have some history behind it, and I thought of sharing it finally. I was browsing for outfits for last year's KCFW scheduled at this time of the year.  I also knew that we had a family trip to Iceland. When I was outfit planning and shopping, little did I know that the dates were clashing. So the Garden Party plans were delayed by a year, but the dress was hanging in my closet.

Miranda Priestly herself had mentioned, that Floral for Spring, was groundbreaking! So when it gets colder, do not retire your florals The moodier the floral, the apter, it is was for Fall. Florals have been dominating the Fall Winter runway shows for the last two years, and they are here to stay. Fall florals are pretty versatile and can be paired in quite a few ways. When the weather gets cooler, throw on a leather jacket and tights and booties. Its all in the details! The Fall Floral number, which I have been in love with, since last Fall, has the cutest of details. One can neither miss the fun sleeves nor the lace.

As far as accessories go, I played up the blue tones of the florals, with a statement earring. Skipped the necklace altogether, as I wanted the lace details to shine through. The cognac leather sandals and the Jord wood watch were a perfect homage to the earth tones of the outfit. Prada Cat Eyes and we were all set to party, KCFW style!

Stay tuned to my Blog, to know what happened at the KCFW SS'19 Garden Party.

KCFW SS'16 - MY FAVORITE TRENDS

Its March ! Which just means we are inching closer to Spring. proud and humbled to announce that I have been selected as Official Media for another season of Kansas City Fashion Week. Cant wait to celebrate fashion with all of you in the next few weeks. Stay tuned to the blog for updates on the shows, Outfit posts , designer interviews and so much more.

As I had the privilege to cover Kansas City Fashion Week Spring Summer 2016, I thought of putting together a final post on my Favorite Fashion Trends. Fashion, like poetry ,always has different interpretations. I am not here predicting what's going to going to transcend from the Runway to the Streets, just sharing what trends stood out for me.

SKIRTS, SKIRTS ALL THE WAY:
I love me some good skirts. From Full skirts to cupcake skirts to A-line skirts, the variety was great.

BLACK AND WHITE RULED :
While it was a Spring Summer Fashion event, it just proved how timeless Black and White can be. Monochromes showed up the collections of many designers.

LEATHER AND LACE :
Lace is a favorite and so is leather. Sometimes they appeared on their own, and sometimes they appeared together. In all instances of their appearances, they surely did rock. Whether it was a lacy dress for a Spring Fling, or an edgy leather bustier, or better still lace and leather together.

WHAT I WORE FOR KCFW SS'16 FINAL DAY : MONOCHROMES : OOTD

And it was time for the last day of Kansas City Week Spring Summer '16. A beautiful week celebrating Fashion, was coming to a close. As monochromes had been a strong feature in many shows of the season, I decided to stick to the palette. I picked out a Black and White dress which I had worn earlier in the year for my daughter's birthday. You can't go wrong with monochromes or stripes. And this dress had both. the beauty of the dress was that the stripes were asymmetrical which gave you an illusion and hid your problem area(for me thats my tummy ).

I wanted to play up the monochromes with some shadesofblue. So I opted for a turquoise and red necklace with co-ordinating earrings, which was another find from my many trips to New Mexico. i have thing for turquoise , i am sur you know by now.

For my Eye Make up, I used my URBAN DECAY NAKED PALETTE 1 . I used the colors Sidecar on the inner corner, Gunmetal on the outer corner. I used the color Naked as a transition shade on my crease. For my lips, it was MAC VIVA GLAM 1 . the rest was my basic everyday make up. I have given heat styling miss for my hair and let my natural texture shine through. I used some serum to tame the flyways.

Huge Thank You to Jacquelyn Lippert of 5 o clock fashionistas  and Samantha Globe of Of Life and Style for the beautiful pictures of this post.
