TRANSITIONING TO FALL: VEST SIDE STORY: HOW TO PAIR THE SAME VEST WITH DIFFERENT OUTFITS

Its no secret that I love Summer and its no secret that I love Vests. Yes, you will find me wearing vests at all times of the year. Well, almost all time of the year. And my love for Vests finds a mention in a series I have on this blog, aptly called the VEST SIDE STORY. And since the weather is getting oh so cooler on us, I thought this was the right time, to put up a new update on the ongoing series. While my previous posts concentrated on a single OOTD and how I had paired the vest, I thought of something different for this post.

HOW TO PAIR THE SAME VEST WITH DIFFERENT OUTFITS !!

I am trying to hold on to the last days of summer with my hands stretched out. But I can only stretch it so far. But thats the not the same story with my summer dresses. Rather than shoving them back into the darkest corners of the closet for the next few months, layering them, works better in treating them for some more time. And what better to layer them with than VESTS. Transitioning to Fall with a hint of Summer.

The case in point: A DENIM ON LACE VEST from TARGET which I had picked up in Spring this year. Yes,we get into Target for a gallon of milk, and walk out with bags full of things we had no plans of buying. Guilty as charged. Denim on lace has ben pretty big this year. And one of my other vests, which combines DENIM-LACE AND LEATHER, is another favorite. When you pick up pieces of Denim, think of how long you can wear it ? How many ways can you pair it? Lets face it, rhinestone and tattooed denims are a fad better dead. This particular Denim Vest is a light wash one, with white lace. The contrast in colors is a lot subtle and that makes it easier to use as a transitional piece and to wait with many different outfits.

When I try and pair the same piece with different outfits, I try to keep these pointers in mind:

SHOES

ACCESSORIES

COLORS

I also always bring in one STATEMENT PIECE, so that the attention goes to that statement piece rather than the same vest with different outfits.

For instance when I wore this vest during my long Canadian Long trip, I paired it with some dark jeggings and a charcoal loose blouse. For my shoes I opted for combat boots, which I had folded it down. Darker colors and a tough pair of shoes, gave the entire outfit a different vibe. A red lip to bring all the monotones together. For this outfit my statement piece were my vintage CHANEL sunglasses.

For  day out in the city I paired the vest with an off shoulder geometric print dress . As the dress had a melee of prints, the vest helped to tone down the look and bring about some cohesiveness. For my shoes, I opted for nude pumps, with just a hint of yellow. The nude shoes further helped to tone down the look and the touch of yellow brought a contrast to the blues dominating the outfit. I had not only stretched my short summer dress to the cooler days, but it did not look inappropriate for the time of the year. For this outfit the statement piece were my CALVIN KLEIN NUDE PUMPS.

My third outfit was when I was trying on the VEST in the dressing room in Target. I was wearing a black maxi dress which provided a good blank canvas to check out how versatile the vest was. Yes, I have pair these pumps with this vest maybe a bit too many times, but it does serve its purpose. My statement piece were my PRADA CAT EYE SUNGLASSES.

For a girly brunch , I paired the same vest with a printed Maxi Dress. Yes, I was playing with blues again. But this time, I decided to p;ay up with the color blue.  Blue velvet pumps and a hot pink lip made it perfect to lounge pool side, with my favorite cocktail. My TURQUOISE EARRINGS AND STATEMENT NECKLACE were my statement piece for this outfit.

OOTD : FLORALS AND LIME : VEST SIDE STORY

So who remembers that I started a series called VEST SIDE STORY, as I am a hoarder for Vests. vest are surely pretty hot this season, and I have been rocking quite a few of them, for quite a few occasions. Here's my second installment on my short series on VESTS for Spring Summer. And who knows, if I am in the mood, I might even stretch the series for the rest of the year.

I know Spring and Florals are a no brainer. But then you can't help rock florals every year, but with each year with a difference. Its all about re-inventing the florals and re-thinking your outfit choices. I had picked up this FLORAL VEST from FOREVER 21 in the Spring of 2013. I was a new Mom and was looking for layering pieces, which would take the attention of my tummy. I fell in love with this Vest for the way it combined the florals with all the stud detailing on its collars and shoulders. Its like Badass Florals. The Metal detailing give the florals a robust lease of life. Almost make Florals look edgy. And trust me, its a layering piece, with which you can style pretty many outfits.

I have a Lime Green Maxi Dress from MACY's which is racer back. I love it all the year round, but tend to wear it more during this time of the year. I usually always wear the Maxi Dress on its own, as the color is so bright. But this time around, I decided to pair it with my Floral Vest. The whole outfit came together beautifully. Both the dress and the vest were complimenting each other.

As there was such a bright play of colors on the dress and the vest, I went the neutral way when it came to my Bag. I chose a Distressed Leather GUESS  Handbag, which was big enough to carry my DSLR for a day out. One of the reasons why I picked out this handbag was for its metal stud detailing similar to the detailing on my vest.

Essie's Mint Candy Apple on my Nails keeping up the green and aqua theme. I played up the theme further with a pair of TURQUOISE FLIP FLOPS from CHARMING CHARLIE

For my make up, I opted for my basic Everyday Spring Make Up but switched up things a bit along the way. I was playing up the aqua colors all around with my outfit choice, so opted for a Blue Gel Liner: MAC COSMETICS FLUIDLINE in WAVELENGTH. Its a lovely cobalt blue gel liner but came out as a lot darker in  the pics as they were taken on a rather cloudy day. For my lipstick rather than going Coral, I opted for L'OREAL PRIVEE COLLECTION'S DOUTZEN'S NUDE with RIMMEL'S EAST END SNOB LIPLINER. Slicked back my hair in a low bun and ironed out my bangs. My silver hoops and white gold-diamond nose pin completed the picture for me.

So go ahead and give florals a new lease of life in your Summer wardrobe this year. Florals need not resemble your Granny's curtains and can be styled quite interestingly.
