BLOG TALK KC : MONETIZING YOUR BLOG

Last evening I attended a mini workshop organized by the lovely ladies of BLOG TALK KC. 40 plus KC Bloggers got together, with notebooks and pens in hand, to learn about how to make your blog your full time income. I have been blogging for over five years now, but honestly when it comes to monetization, I realized I have not been that worldly .

It was a super windy evening, but we were in an ancient stone castle sipping on our cocktails and soaking in all that our lovely speakers had to share with us. No, I am not kidding about the castle bit at all. Chef Renee Kelly hosted our lovely bunch at her amazing restaurant HARVEST . I had been to Harvest earlier and if you want to read about my experience, then click Here .

Huge Thank you to Chef Renee Kelly for all the tasty appetizers she sent for us. From a crazy good cheese platter, to truffle fries with aioli, to clams and braised rabbits, the plates kept coming up. Chef Kelly spoke to us about her culinary journey and mentioned that she would be contesting for the next Top Chef. Well, we would be rooting for you big time Chef. Its always a pleasure meeting her.

Mingling , with the clinking of our cocktail and champagne glasses carried on, as the storm raged outside. My spirit of choice for the night was Pimms and Gin.

Finally it was time for our Keynote speaker, Kelly Snyder of the blog Redefined Mom  She literally blew my brains away with her business ideas. I was surely living under a rock, when it came to earning money from my blog. She took us through the ropes of how to fine tune the approach of our blogs, how to prepare a proper media kit and finally make our blog, a better marketable product.

"Your Blog is the only startup in the US, with the least amount of capital involved." As I was crazily scribbling down, it was indeed a wake up call for me.

Last but not the least, as it was so chilly and windy last night, I went the typical skinny jeans and leather jacket route for my OOTD. Some pointy shoes and my powder blue top from Express was my pop of color for the outfit.

Thank you Blog Talk KC, Chef Renee Kelly and Kelly Snyder for such a wonderful evening. I have a lot of work to do on my blog for sure.

KCFW SS'16 DAY 3 - UNION STATION : HIGHLIGHTS

I am someone who started off with a point and shoot camera and literally learnt her way around fancy DSLRs. I am still learner. From trying to take pictures on the Auto Mode, I have won a Photography contest recently, which showed off some of my acquired skills. While at any Event, I am always inspired by all the brilliant Photo Journalists at work. Their gear, their composition is awe inspiring. So when I got chatty with KCFW Photographer Laura Noll , I learnt so much. And could not miss getting all Fan girly and sharing a frame with her. Thanks for all the tips Laura. She has taken some brilliant shots of mine, which are coming up soon, in an OOTD post.

After the initial socializing and cocktails, It was time to settle down for the shows.

For me, Molly Elizabeth walked away with the top honors of the night. 16 years old and literally a treasure trove of talent. Her clothes swung between blacks, and shades of Grey. The metallic silver lips and the Anime Marks on the cheeks, channeled the inner Cat Woman and worked in bringing it all together. Loved her clean lines and the way she highlighted the Full Skirts.

My Love story with Full Skirts and all things dreamy and flow continued with St louis based Designer Lauren Bander . Loved the colors in her collection. I Know Monochromes had been quite a highlight of this shows so far. Loved how she used different fabrics and how well she played up with aqua tones with muted browns.

Design Inspirations come from far and near. Am not aware of what all the design inpsiration was for  Afielda , but it was great to see her playing up with an ornate Indian Fabric: Gold Brocade. A fabric which is usually seen, in its various hues in Indian bridal wear, was crafted into Evening wear for Spring Summer. Satin, I feel, can be a difficult fabric to work with, as it look very Costumey. But her designs, took good care that they were no way so. Somehow I was reminded of Ancent Greece by this collection, in the way the gowns flowed and were constructed.

And for all the real life Wonder Woman, I know of, this could be our new Must Have.

The first half of the Shows came to an end with the SpoonFlower Design Challenge, featuring Designers Alicia Janesko, heidi herman, Mary M Wash Collections, Maria Behnen, Alexis Cook, Fabrikait Designs, Paulie Gibson, Redeux Kids, Davi, Lucia's Sarto, Lauren Bander, Tomboy and Katie Lee. Designer Alicia Janesko's model cradled her growing baby bump as she walked on the runway. And as a Momma, I could not help but cheer loudly. Go Momma go ! the audience was supposed to vote through text messages in the intermission, and the second half opened with the winner being announced. My Top picks would be the Lipstick Dress from Alexis Cook and the winning dress from Lucia's Sarto.

How could I not cheer for Jenna Sea !! She was the only designer to showcase twice at KCFW this season. Her first show was at the Runway on The roofTop at the Pool at one light, in the Power and lIght district. She clearly brought back the color in the second half of the show. It was hard to miss the magic of the Jewel Tones.

The fact that one again, she brought out sexy swimwear for women of all sizes made her show, closer to the heart for most audience members.

Orange is clearly the new Black for designer Davi . Her collection was a welcome burst of color. She combined Orange tops in different textures with flowy pants and full skirts. She carefully weaved in prints like Batik to go with her orange theme.

And her showstopper must have been the best show stopper for the evening !!

It was time travel once again with FabriKait Designs . Loved the Bridgitte Bardot inspired hair and the play of Tie Dye. The fabric, the print and structure all blended in so cohesively.  She had almost missed the cue with color, except for a final pop of Tangerine.

Clearly the audience had been waiting for Project Runway alumnus and finale Designer Joshua Christensen. Joshua had a great mix of Mens Wear and WomensWear and was inspired by Summer in Los Angeles. Male Models with pants swung low kick started his collection and cleary the audience was asking for more. He had a great play of colors but his finale piece in  monochromes, was the top draw for me. Loved how he brought in Jumpsuits for men. Androgyny was the key in his collection. Both is male and female models, sorted the classic combo of T-shirts and Blazers and  knocked the ball off the park.

Last but not the least , were some designers who clearly failed to impress. Chesterfield, Missouri based designer Ola Style, did have a retro element, but it lacked the wow factor somehow. Somehow the outfit sported by the designer when she walked out was way better than the current collection sported by her models.

And then there was  St. Louis based designer Paulie Gibson, who had begun the shows on Friday. He was the only designer who had  an all male model ensemble at the show. While he had a fair share of color, his outfits failed to impress. And the third Outfit in the collection, was clearly an Indian Kurta(apt for the sweltering Indian Summer). Maybe we can guess the design inspiration : Indian Summer maybe. Maybe not.

Paulie Gibson
And so it was a wrap of another fun filled night of celebrating Fashion !!
